Weather in Morzine

Morzine has a great snow record and although the town is at 1000m the skiing area reaches well over 2500m. We are only a stones throw away from Mont Blanc and therefore catch the Mont Blanc weather system which provides us with the same snow as other resorts at 2000m! As the winter North-East winds blow in from Eastern Europe, it picks up water vapour from Lake Geneva and drops this in the form of snow on the first mountain range it meets – the Portes du Soleil ! This means pretty good snow records from November to early May.

Morzine and much of the Portes du Soleil history is based in farming due to the acres of lush green pastures in the summer. This is also the winter skiers’ friend as we only need eight inches of snow for good coverage rather that the two foot of snow needed to cover the rocky terrain of other Alpine resorts.

  • “I have lived here for four years now and there has always been plenty of snow and usually fantastic conditions!” KH, Morzine
  • “There is always the snow, we wait, it comes, it stays and after goes in time for summer” translation, JB, Morzine resident
